Queen Himiko has given you and your opponents the special task of building the capital of Yamatai and make it the crown jewel of archipelago. Given such a big task, you and your opponents will try to obtain the favour of the Queen by being the greatest builder of Yamatai!
In Yamatai, players compete with each other to become the greatest builder of Yamatai by building palaces, torii and buildings. Points are scored by how much money left a player has on hand, the types of buildings that were built during the game, and specialists hired. Yamatai is centred around 10 numbered action tiles, depicting coloured ships and some of them with a special ability. These action tiles are shuffled each round and revealed on the table. Each player may choose a tile, in which they must get the coloured ships that are depicted on their action tile, and place their ships on the board. At this point, players may buy or sell a ship for money. Players may choose to either collect new resources from the land their new ships have touched, or build a building on a vacant space. In order to build, the space must have coloured ships around it that match the ships depicted on one of the building tiles. Extra money is earned if you are able to build a building that can connect to others you own. Specialists are also available for hire, as they offer more powerful ability than just a regular action. You can pay three different resources or a pair of matching resources in order to hire a specialist. The game ends when ships of any colour have run out, or there are no more specialists available for hire. The player with the most points wins the game and becomes the greatest builder of Yamatai! Using fleets that travel through the kingdom and hiring the right specialists to your cause, you’ll need to strategize and plan carefully in order to not fall behind the others. Can you build Yamatai into the greatest kingdom in the land? Or will the Queen capture the interest of someone else?
Yamatai is recommended for 2-4 players, ages 13 and up.
